XC NPS 2012 Round 1 Cancelled
0XC NPS 1 which was originally scheduled for 15th April 2012 has unfortunately been cancelled.
The first NPS (which will still be tagged as NPS #2) will be the first NPS of 2012, and will be run on 29th April by CuChulainn CC in the excellent venue of Bellurgan Park, checkout MADs report from 2011
Meantime, there’s still loads of XC racing opportunities, with the Gravity Enduro , Biking Blitz series, the G-Ride XC event in a brand new venue, and of course the highly anticipated Racing795 race with their newly refurbished track which has made for brilliant racing in the past few years
Note that the CuChulainn, G-Ride and Racing 795 races form the 3 rounds of the Leinster League, you must attend all 3 rounds to be in with a chance to score points in the Leinster League table, so make sure to clear these dates in your diaries and set yourself up for some great early-season XC action!

Talent Team 2020 Finding Their Feet – Off Road
0Tollymore Outdoor Adventure Centre was the venue for the Female 2020 Talent Team’s second training camp. The focus was on Mountain Biking and Tollymore was the perfect venue with its purpose designed Mountain Bike Skills Courses to take this enthusiastic young group. Set at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore is an excellent venue and deserves much praise. There are a variety of skills courses catering for beginners to elite rider’s right next to the centre, which was perfect for this group with such a wide range of skill.
Ciara McManus – Head Coach – kicked off the day by taking the girls through a bike check to make sure all bikes were in good working order and specifically that the breaks worked; she gave a demo on the neutral position ensuring everyone got the idea before proceeding with breaking techniques. The more experienced MTB girls gave a demo on how to break using the back break only and then the front break. Nicola Oldham and Rachel Ormrod put the girls through their paces showing them how to balance and stay in the neutral position. (more…)
Tree Disease Risk Forces Cancellation of XC Nationals at Tollymore
0Per a previous update posted here, the tree-disease P. ramorum has shown a very significant risk of spreading to Tollymore forest (advised by N.I. Forest Service), which would force cancellations of any events there this year.
Banbridge CC who were looking forward to hosting the event in July regret to advise this update, and have withdrawn from hosting the event in the hope that there will be time to find another club who can host the event.
No alternative venue was available to Banbridge CC unfortunately.
The Offroad Commission would like to invite submissions from clubs for the XC National Champs, please email offroad.commission@gmail.com.
2012 Winter Series Round 1 Report
0
Last weekend the famous Winter Series made its return after its sad absence in 2011. Originally planned for Moneyscalp Woods which could almost be described as the home of the Winter Series at this stage but due to complications we ended up in Bigwood, just outside of Newry, Co.Down.
Warning to Ticknock/ThreeRock users
0Important update from CI Offroad Commission:
Work has been recently performed by Coillte near the upper Ticknock carpark in order to deter riders from cutting down across a short section of singletrack to the tarmac road below, but this has resulted in a very dangerous condition whereby a rider could be badly injured if they use this trail so please take careful note and avoid it.
The section of trail in question runs is shown in the image below.
A bank has been created at the edge of the tarmac road whereby if you roll down this bank from the trail above, you are in danger of getting your wheels trapped in the gulley between the lower part of the bank and the tarmac road, potentially resulting in you crashing onto the tarmac road.
Google-Earth image of the exit of this trail is here - please have a look and be aware of the problem.
The urgency and danger of this issue has been communicated to Coillte today who will resolve the issue asap but meantime ** Please do not use this section of trail until the issue gets resolved!!**
Kinetica Munster XC Series Round 1 Report
0Sunday January 29th saw the first round of an exciting new Mountain Bike race series kick off at Tracton Woods near Carrigaline in Co. Cork. The event was hosted by www.mbcc.ie which is one of Corks growing Mountain Bike clubs.
Despite some pretty wet weather in the days preceding the race a large crowd attended on the day with 109 adults signing on throughout the categories and 45 Youth riders racing. The trail was a testing course as the rain created a very muddy atmosphere. This was to be winter time Mountain biking at its best. Over the years MBCC have developed a fantastic club resource at the woods through Coillte where members can enjoy their training, sport and competition.
This years Kinetica Munster XC Series has 5 rounds of racing at the end of which overall Champions will be crowned. this being the first round, everyone was keen to see the “in form” riders would be. (more…)
