The Bull Raid Is Coming!!
1![]()
Set in the grounds of Bellurgan Park Estate in County Louth, Ireland’s 12 hour Mountain Bike Race returns on Saturday 6th August. This event was designed for mountain bikers to have fun, be competitive and provide an endless supply of great memories! No matter the level (beginner to expert) it is there for you.
Having just held round one of the Irish XC NPS series, with over 300 entries, it is the perfect venue for a 12 mountain bike race. A very dedicated team of trail builders created some single track heaven, hand carved in ancient broad leaf forrest. For this event, the NPS trail increases to make a 10km lap.
All new for 2011 ‘The Half Bull 6hr’ – The original ‘Full Bull 12hr’ retains it’s winning format for 2011. The Half Bull will be on the same course as the 12hr with the same format except for a 1.30pm start. Finish time is 7.30pm same as the main race. The start time has been brought forward by 30mins from 2010 to 7.30am. It was getting a bit spooky in the woods last year for the last lap.
Biking Blitz Round 4 Results
0The final round of the highly popular Biking Blitz, managed by Niall Davis of Biking.ie and his enthusiastic Blitz crew, was run on the new MTB trails at Ticknock forest, Dublin.
The Blitz coincided with the official opening of the trails by Leo Varadkar T.D. Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, and there was some hard and fast racing in every category.
Results can be viewed here.
Some photos courtesy of Aine from MADMTB here.
The Biking Blitz has been a very successful series in terms of getting cyclists into the hills and enjoying racing or just touring the trails which have been constructed under the management of Coillte and the DMP.
The series also helps highlight that mountainbikers are a very large and ever-increasing population of recreational users in the Dublin mountains and many other areas around the country, and it is good to see MTB’ers officially welcomed into the Coillte-managed forests to pursue their sport.
With the dramatic increase in popularity of these trails, and mountainbiking as a leisure activity/sport, Coillte and the DMP are now charged with providing a larger and more diverse trail network, particularly in the Dublin mountains, to satisfy the increased demand and numbers.
Trails are also required for the youth members of the sport, where parents can bring their children and safely observe them practicing and honing their skills on mini-trails designed specifically for children to safely enjoy.
Facilities such as those provided at the various Welsh trail centres would also be a very popular and welcome addition to the current trails network.
For more information on future plans and developments you may contact Karen Woods at the Dublin Mountains Partnership.
Biking Blitz Round 2!
0Following on from the success of Round 1, the Biking Blitz moves down south to the Ballyhoura trail centre.
