Downhill World Cup Fort William 2024 – interested riders notice

Irish Downhill Riders who are considering applying for a place at the first round of the 2024 World Cup in Fort William (3-5 May 2024), are requested to email the Cycling Ireland Off-road Commission by close of play on Wednesday 31 January 2024.

Send in details of your name, current licence number, club and contact details (include parent/guardian details if under 18) to secretary@offroadcyclingireland.ie.

The first round of the World Cup is particularly early in the season this year. As has been discussed and published previously, to enable entry to this level of event, the ORC encourages all riders to demonstrate their ability in lower tier International races (C1 / C2 standard) to provide evidence that they are ready & capable to race at the higher level and will gain a positive experience from the race exposure.

The UK often provides this standard of racing opportunity to Irish riders. Early indications are that changes in the BC seeding & entry systems this year may make it more difficult for Irish Riders to access BC races e.g. Rheola ahead of the World Cup. This is something Cycling Ireland are looking into but may not be resolved quickly.

As such, if you are interested in racing the 1st round of the UCI DH MTB World Cup this year, please confirm this in writing to us. We will be assessing the cohort of athletes interested in racing and suggesting an approach to be considered for entry given the circumstances.
Please share this information with your peers.
