Date change for the 2018 NPS XC series

Due to circumstances outside of their control, MAD MTB is no longer able to host a round of the 2018 Cross-country National Point Series.  A lot of work had been going on in the background with developing Ticknock but there was an event clash on the chosen date and other dates do not suit.  We hope to have the club and venue back next year.

In order to maintain a 5 round series we simple went to the next club who were looking for an NPS round this year but there were none left.   Xmtb was already going to run a round of the Ulster XC series on Sunday 17 June at Lady Dixon Park in Belfast and they are happy to double that round up as an NPS round. This has meant a slight renumbered of the rounds.

These circumstances do happen and we do hope that riders will still be able to get to all the rounds they can.

This leaves the 2018 NPS XC as –

129 AprilTollymore ForestDromara CC
23 JuneSlade ValleyIMBRC
317 JuneLady Dixon Park, BelfastXmtb
424 JuneTracton WoodsMBCC
58 JulyDavagh ForestCarn Wheelers

Eagle eyed readers will note that 3 of the 5 rounds are in Ulster.  This was in contrast to last year when there were none in Ulster. This is just how it fell out this year.  Ideally it would be great for 2019 to get a spread of venues across all 4 provinces.

Details of the races will be up on

Sunshine at Djouce for the National XCO Championships

The 2017 Irish National Cross-country Mountain Bike Championships took place at Djouce Woods in Country Wicklow on Sunday 23 July. The venue is one that host club EPIC MTB would be very familiar with having run many similar events in this location over the years. The car parking, sign on and event village were all based in the field beside the woods which offered a stunning view of Powerscourt Waterfall and the Wicklow mountains. Riders and spectators could enjoy an uninterrupted view of the valley with its peaks, fields, wooded areas and scattered houses. From the vista point we could watch the rain clouds approach or the patches of blue sky appear. This venue is know for the wind that whips up from the valley floor but today the wind conditions were favourable. The day started out grey with some light showers during the morning but by the afternoon blue sky prevailed and sunshine appeared. It finished on a very pleasant warm day allowing the volunteers to pack up and tidy up bathed in sunshine. Continue reading Sunshine at Djouce for the National XCO Championships
