Early notification for selection for support in Downhill World Championships
The Cycling Ireland Off-road Commission is seeking expressions of interest from riders in the Junior and Elite age-groups who would like to be supported to race in the UCI MTB DH World Championships taking place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland on 5-9 September 2018.
This document is an early notification of the criteria that will be used to select eligible riders to allow riders to be fully prepared for consideration.
Potential riders must hold a Cycling Ireland international competition license. Full details of the event can be found here.
We are aiming to support up to three riders, plus managers. Both Males and Females are eligible for selection. Due to a lack of significant funding for 2018, only riders who can demonstrate, through results in the qualifying events listed below, a strong possibility of achieving a top 5 finish in their category will be selected.
Support can only be provided to a maximum of 3 riders. Support will NOT fully cover all travel and accommodation expenses for participation in the event therefore the selected riders must be prepared to contribute towards the remainder and must make their own arrangements regarding travel and accommodation. If selected, the rider will be required to submit an expenses claims form after the event has taken place and a proportional reimbursement will follow shortly afterwards.
Selection Criteria
The riders must hold a 2018 UCI competition membership licence with the country code “IRL”.
The Championship’s registration period runs from 16-27 August 2018 and therefore all of the events below will be taken into consideration:
Podium finishes in
– 2017 iDMS and 2017 National Champs
– Rounds 2,3 and 4 of 2018 iDMS
– 2018 National DH Championships
Top 15 finishes in
– 2017/2018 events up to 31st July 2018 in any of the BDS, SDA and European/World events on mainland Europe.
Priority will be given to those riders who can demonstrate current form as at 31st July 2018.
On 1st August 2018 an invitation will be issued to those riders the CIORC considers worthy of selection as at 31st July 2018 at which point those riders so invited will be requested to submit a formal CV by the closing date of Friday 10th August. An example CV is provided here.
