Leah at the EWS

The Enduro World Series (EWS) at Aínsa, Spain was a tough two days battling with temperatures as high as 35C! I had a bit of trouble keeping pressure in my rear wheel on Day 1 but I trucked on and got it patched up for the final two stages of the day. I headed into Day 2 with the ambition of taking a stage win and that I did. I was happy to finish up in P2 after a challenging two days.

First notification of the Off-road Commission’s AGM

This is the first notification of Cycling Ireland Off-road Commission Annual General Meeting (AGM).  This meeting will take place on Saturday 20 October 2018 – venue to be confirmed (Dublin based).

Positions on the Commission
The commission will be made up with the following 9 positions.  All of the posts are up for re-election.

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Downhill co-ordinator
  • Cross-country co-ordinator
  • Cyclo-cross co-ordinator
  • Enduro rep
  • Women’s rep
  • Commission member

The commission wish to highight that current Chair, Damien Duggan, has come to the end of his 2 years in the position.  Also note that the Downhill Co-ordinator, Derek Cowan, has expressed his desire to step down from the Commission.  The Commission did not have a cross-country rep in 2018.

Criteria for World CX Championships

Selection Criteria for 2019 World Cyclocross Championships, Denmark.

The purpose of this of this document is to set out the selection process for Irish riders to compete in the 2019 UCI Cyclocross World Championships in Bogense, Denmark (2-3 Feb 2019).  The selection is open to riders in the following categories: Junior men, Junior women, Under 23 men, Under 23 women, Elite men and Elite women.

Irish team for the World Championships DHI/XCO 2018

The Downhill and Cross-country World Championships will take place in Lenzerheide in Switzerland from 4-9 September 2018. The following riders will be representing Ireland at this competition:

Bioracer – Atlassian International UCI Cyclocross

The Irish cyclocross scene both north and south of the border has seen phenomenal growth in recent years and it takes another huge step forward this coming season with it’s inaugural UCI race, the Bioracer – Atlassian International Cyclocross, promoted by Kinning Cycles, taking place in Belfast on Sunday October 7th. The event is also supported by co-sponsors McKinley Contracts.

The event, a UCI C2 graded race, is the first of its kind ever to take place in Ireland and will see witness to international riders from the USA, Italy and France so far as well as the best riders on the Irish domestic circuit.

The Bioracer – Atlassian International Cyclocross boasts one of the highest prize funds for any single day bike race in Ireland, with almost 4,000 euro spread across the UCI events. Women will receive equal prize money to men.

Inaugural Irish National Enduro Championships

2018 will see the first official Irish National Enduro Championships by Gravity Enduro Ireland at Djouce Woods. The event will be run as per Gravity Enduro Ireland time table and rules. Registration closes Sunday 19th August, one week before the event. Login to your account on and enter.

If you want to be in with a chance of winning a medal you must have a full Cycling Ireland Licence with an IRL code and you must Pre Register on

If you don’t have a licence you can still enter on the day and race for the craic as normal!

Cyclo-cross racing – organiser’s appeal

With most of the off-road disciplines coming to a close for the year the cyclo-cross season is only just starting. This fast exciting winter sport has a wide appeal. Clubs are asked to submit their dates onto the Cycling Ireland system for approval. The Off-road Commission is particularly interested in getting the various provinces to host their own provincial championships on the proposed date of Sunday 9 December.

The Commission is also keen to hear from clubs who would like to host the Youth Cyclo-cross Championships.
